UPDATED – CALL FOR ARTISTS: Seasonal Activities, v. ii

CALL FOR PERFORMERS

Seasonal Activities is a bi-monthly series of theatre, dance and music as a platform for refinement and conversation. Each volume will include a selection of performances ranging from 5 – 20 minutes in length. Volume II will be curated by Andrew Gaboury.

I am looking for new or pre-existing pieces and encourage you to play with and challenge spatial dynamics, audience-performer relationships and intimacy. I am looking for proposals from different artistic disciplines, and/or pieces that blur lines between these disciplines. Theatre, dance, music, poetry, clown, all live performance styles will be considered. It is important that each submission have a strong visual element; performances, however, should be relatively low-tech to ensure smooth transitions.

I also welcome pieces that can only be performed during certain seasons, or can be adapted to incorporate seasonal variation.

Volume II will take place Friday, June 5th @ hub14 (14 Markham Street, Toronto, ON)

UPDATED DEADLINE: Please send in applications by Friday, May 1st @ 11:59pm

CALL FOR ARTISTS: Off the Wall 2015

off the wall 2014 i

Today I bring exciting news. My friends and collaborators over at Frog in Hand (if you don’t know this company, check them out. They are a multi-disciplinary group co-directed by sisters Colleen Snell and Noelle Hamlyn doing amazing things out in Mississauga and beyond) have announced a call for artists to participate in the 2015 instalment of OFF THE WALL. This was, personally, one of my performance highlights from last year.

CALL FOR ARTISTS

Off the Wall is an exciting, multi-disciplinary project with Frog In Hand and the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.

Performer Profile: Andrew Gaboury

I’ll be performing a series of poems, or vignettes entitled under hill & harbour. Most of these pieces were written while I was living a transient life and deal with themes of wonder, annoyance and finding the sublime in daily life. I made this piece to be performed in an art gallery (Lisa Pijuan-Nomura’s James Street North Gallery in Hamilton) amongst sculptures and paintings and, as such, have been able to install it at many different sites as one could an artwork (including the side of the street), adapting it to fit each unique location.

Andrew Gaboury is an artist that likes to program himself into shows he “curates.” What a jerk.

Performer Profile: Rob Schuyler

bert

Robert Schuyler is a musician, composer and consultant. A large portion of his body of work can be found online as part of a project called ‘songs by bert,’ an ambitious project that culminated in 83 original songs, many solo, some with his experimental folk/hip-hop band Small Town Treason, and others with musicians like Kristin Cleland. He created the ‘songs by bert band’ and played a series of six shows in residency at the Tranzac in Toronto.

Rob will be playing a selection of new music alongside Justin and Jon Dhama at Seasonal Activities, v.i
